If the pain subsides soon, you might just need to lay off of caffeine products. Your kidneys can become very sore if you consume a lot of caffeine. However, to play it safe, I'd go see a doctor. You might have a more serious problem.

It's a sign of many things like bladder infection, kidney infection, kidney stones, or a thousand different things - it could be nothing more then a slight irritation due to something you eat or drank or an allergic reaction. The only way to tell is to go to a doctor. If your not bleeding, running a fever, sweating, pale skin, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. It depends on how serious the symptoms are but go to a clinic or your regular doctor anyway.
P.s. Your kidneys are not going to suddenly shut down so don't worry.

Sounds like a kidney infection...Start drinking lots of water. Cranberry juice is also a good thing to help clear it up.

if it is the kidneys that hurt it's the kidneys and not the bladder...
bladder infections usually come with the feeling the need to go to the loo and then not be able to pee...

It could just be back pain. Try stretching and putting ice on the area. If it continues to throb you should go see the doctor.
