Anything is possible, the question is, are you willing to pay the fees to change the ticket.

I have had itineraries where the return part of the trip is different.
(Raleigh, NC -> San Antonio, TX -> Return Charlotte, NC)
(Boston, MA -> San Antonio, TX -> Return Providence, RI)

1) It is a more expensive ticket to begin with, about $50 more (than just getting round trip to the same city).

2) There will be a change of itinerary fee of $50-$100, different for each airline.

3) Your extra cost will be = Cost of that ticket Now + Fees - Already paid for original ticket.

(When changing itineraries, they charge you for the cost of the new ticket at it stands that day. If you try to change the itinerary the day before you fly it may cost an extra $1,000)

Contact the Airline to change the ticket.

If you have not taken the outbound flight its no problem. What you need to do is contact the airline. They will reprice the itinerary and exchange your ticket for the new ticket. You will be charged a change fee and the difference between your original fare and the new fare, unless you have a fully refundable fare. In that case they would refund the ticket and re-issue. If you are flying economy and got the lowest available fare its almost certainly not a fully refundable fare. If you booked this ticket a while back your fare could be substantially higher, as you could lose the advance purchase discount.

If you have taken the outbound flight already you will probably lose the value of the return ticket. They would charge you for a one way fare, which would be quite expensive. The best way to figure this out is to call the airline. The sooner you do this the better!
