Quote via Lt. Col. Ralph Kauzlarich:

"But there [have] been numerous unfortunate cases of fratricide, and the parents have basically said, 'OK, it was an unfortunate accident.' And they let it go. So this is — I don't know, these people have a hard time letting it go. It may be because of their religious beliefs."

Kauzlarich, now a battalion commanding officer at Fort Riley in Kansas, further suggested the Tillman family's unhappiness with the findings of past investigations might be because of the absence of a Christian faith in their lives."

Apparently the Tillmans are not religious and this man thinks that is the reason for their dissatisfaction over the handling of their son's death. I thougt it was b/c the military lied and then attempted to cover it up, but I am a dirty, rotten atheist. Your view?

What a dumb a--.

I'm with you. Being lied to about the death of a loved one in an attempt to cover up incompetence has nothing to do with religion.

1. The Lt. Col. doesn't speak for all Christians

2. I don't think the Tillman family just dismissed the death of their son, I think they are putting on a brave front for the public because we do not have the right to intrude on their grief.

3. Religion has nothing to do with how you grieve. The important part of the grieving process is closure (which for a religious person, the funeral mass (only been to christian funerals) offers that)

4. I've seen even in the simpliest cases, not those dealing with the military or war, where the family has disputed the cause of death. A recent case in my area: A cop pulls over a drunk teenager. He has the kid sit in the front of his squad car, following proceedure. For some reason (I can't recall now) he had to step away from his car. When he turned around, the boy had opened the car door and jumped off the bridge they were on and drowned. The mother of the boy is planning (or is) sueing the police department because there is no way her angel was drinking that night.
