There are over 50 countries in America, including Canada, which is consider to be a very good country.
I think the term American as meaning people from the U.S of A is a racist term because it excludes all the other 50 countries.
1. America is a continent, not a country.

I think this it is a much nicer definition:

"Staters" (meaning: people from the U.S, becuase their country is called United States of America,
also the term United States of America is racist for the same reason,
It can be changed to United States of North America, but that will leave canada out of the map, or Better still they could be known as the United States (only) which is how people currently call them, it will be also correct to erase this part ("of America").

So I think they should be as followed

The Staters, or The United Staters.
United States (erasing "of america")
If you want to know what is racist we can call them British ex colony, like ex British, or United States of ex Britain

I am from Argentina

In this page you can find over 50 countries (this is the source) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_continent
Look in North and South America

Superior is a term which is abstract, becuase you have more money, more influence or more power.
Someone who says that is superior is a reacist and not a nice person.

If I say racisist is becuase you are implying that US. is the only country that can be consider to be a proper country, by segregating all the other countries or by calling them 3º world countries.

When I am saying about that we can call you ex British I just making a point on how bad a people of some countries can feel by calling yourself in the way you call yourself.

America is a continent

Superior is relative, eg. a computers, helps us in a way, but make us less sociable people.

Superior, The US is responsible for the Atomic bomb, lots of wars, they enslaved many countries, and ruin many lifes.

Supirior in which way?

There was a guy calling the US supirior according to wikipedia that is being racist,
segregating, is other way of being racist.

This is the definition of racism according to wikipedia

When racism, a belief, is applied in practice, it takes forms such as prejudice, discrimination, segregation or subordination. Racism can more narrowly refer to a system of oppression, such as institutional racism.
Racism is commonly defined as a belief or doctrine where inherent biological differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, with a corollary that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.[1]

I can't think of another nation that uses the word "America" in its name. We are the USA so it is logical to call us Americans. I do use the term "Norte Americano" to describe myself while in Latin America so as not to offend local sensibilities but I still consider myself an American.

The United States has 50 states, not countries. We are part of the continent of North America, which includes Canada and Mexico. Then Central and South America below have several countries in each.

Why are you trying to make it more complicated and what does racism have to do with geography?

The term "American" generally does mean of the United States, the reason is because we are the most powerful nation in the world. We are the world superpower. How is "American" racist? I don't see how being American is synonomous with being racist. Why should we change the name of our country? And with the ex-British comment, if you apply that to the United States of America, you have to apply that to Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, big chunks of Africa, parts of China, Guyana, and many other places because of the vastness of the British Empire. I'm sad that you think that being American is being racist.

you have no idea what the defination of "racist" is!! It has nothing to do with the country you are from. And besides there are NOT 50 countries on the continent of North or South America. Get some facts before you talk.

I believe that the term you are looking for is more nationalist than racist. American is a direct location/hemispherical label. If you're from Equador, you're Equadorian, if you're from New York, you're a New Yorker, etc.

To be nationalist or to corralate your identity to a term which represents you current habitat or locale, is simply a proud way of saying "this is where I'm from!" Unless there is a slander or libel term attached to the term as well.

It is not racist to say I'm American, or African American, or any other such related term.
