You'll have to ask an artist in your area if they are willing to help you learn. Often apprenticeships aren't free, you may have to pay your artist for their knowledge and services. Keep in mind some areas offer 6 months classes, but that is not enough time to know what you are doing and if you take a class you won't be able to build up any reputation for yourself.
Its a hard business to get into, so you'd better be prepared to bend over backward from time to time to impress your elders in the business and to make them believe you really want to do this.

You usually get licensing through a tattoo shop. No, you don't need one to become an apprentice. That's why you apprentice =) An apprentice, normally, is the shop owner's b*tch. lol A "gopher". You usually don't get paid... some cases, you pay them. You spend a lot of time tracing, and prepping tattoos. But, you do learn all the little tricks and secrets along the way. And eventually you get to tattoo on your own. So, it's worth it

You will need a portfolio of your artwork and some serious cash. You will have to ask many artist because you will get turned down. In my opinion, they are doing you a favor by letting you learn there skills so there not in favor of it usually. Do a lot of research too. Good luck.
