Where do I have my best chance at getting 'top dollar'?
Classified ads, dealer or public auction?
Thanks!

My brother sells cars for a living. I can tell you that you want to stay away from dealers, they won't give you enough. Local classifieds usually produce the highest amount, but they take a long time. AutoTrader.com is probably your best bet.

Your best bet to get "top dollar" is to sell it yourself.

Do not take anything else but money! (Dollar bills/greenbacks). Or if they insist on paying some other way, you can always accept money via paypal.
Do not accept a personal check for your car.

You can advertise it for free on http://www.craigslist.org
(Free and you can post pictures too)
