I love Thai food, however many of the renditions of Thai food in the US leave a lot to be desired. Take dtom yahm goong, shrimp and lemongrass soup,(goong is shrimp, dtom yahm is a clear lemongrass broth) that was previously mentioned. One of the key ingredients is lemon grass which is expensive in the US so they usually use very little. Also the heat levels in the US are nowhere near what they are in Thailand. I suppose most western stomachs aren't accustomed to eating nice and spicy food, but I love it. Satay is great, bbq meat on a stick. Neua pad prik, or beef with chilis, is fantastic. There are as many flavors as you could imagine, curry not being that frequent in the normal thai diet. Pad Thai, or noodles with Thai sauce, is a very common meal, but my favorite noodles are Pad woo sen, glass noodles and ooooh soh tasty. Plah sohm rhot, or married fish, is a great Thai specialty that just made my mouth water thinking of.

It depends on your tastes, it's hard to say what is best for you as I don't know your preferences, but a good thing to look for when you go to a thai restaurant is the number of western people compared to asian people dining. The higher the asian content there is, the more authentic it is :)

Surely, i do love it!
Maybe, the last time you tried that soup-- it's the soup being added with coconut-milk, right? u may feel bad if u are not used to that kind of ingredient.
Can u eat that kind of spicy food?
If u say " Yes",
I suggest u to try "Tom yam gung" --don't forget tell the chief that do not add milk into it. And u should order " Gai hoe bai tuey" --grilled chicken covered by sweet palm leaf, to eat along with the above one. Then, u may ended this meal with some sweet like fresh- coconut ice cream , coconut milk ice cream or honey mango on Thai sticky-rice, topped by coconut milk.
This guidance is just an outline. i hope u have a wonderful experience next time trying our Thai food.

If you like fish, try the fish that's served whole & is baked and friend with garlic (forget what it's called but it's fantastic). Depending on how spicy you like your food try the green, yellow & red curries (red- not spicy, yellow- semi spicy, green-pretty spicy) Penang curry is pretty good too. Or there's the stir fried meats with ginger or basil.. both very good. If you're in a northern part of Thailand, try Burmese curry with pumpkin & chicken. It's fantastic, and not that spicy. Banana flower salad is a great starter, and sticky rice with mango is a great dessert. Hope this helps!

We have many good Thai restaurants in the Dallas area. I love any kind of curry and they have red yellow and green curry dishes with pork, chicken, shrimp or beef. Tom Yung Kung soup in my opinion is delicious, it has lots of vegetables and shrimp. I like all the Thai food at our local restaurants. I like things spicy and they use different kinds of chilies, that they provide in side dishes that you can add to get the degree of spiciness that you desire. I like their Tai iced tea with Boba, those little black tapioca balls.

I have only had Thai food in the US, it might be that their food over there taste different. Kind of like Mexican food in the US (spicy) vice Mexico (bland).

Go to a seafood restaurant that has live crabs and have them curried in a sweet coconut curry sauce.

It's hard to go wrong with any of the curries or salads if you are looking to keep it somewhat simple.
