It is possible that it is Angina Pectoralis. This can also cause chest pains, discomfort, and trouble breathing. If you are a healthy, active, young adult, it is probably not a heart attack, but Angina. Still, you should have your doctor check you out as soon as possible, as it could be other things. Your doctor will probably give you an EKG, and recommend a CT scan, to make sure there is nothing wrong with your heart or lungs (eg. pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, etc.) If your doctor cannot give you an appointment immediately when you describe your symptoms to him/her, then you can walk into any med clinic or emergency room. However, your HMO may make you pay a larger portion of the final bill. Good luck to you, and I hope you feel better soon.

If this pain gets worse when you take a deep breath it could be pleuracy which is an infection between the outer and inner lining of your lungs called the pleural sac. It happens with excessive coughing also, the linings rub together and the nerve endings send off pain signals. Shortness of breath and chest pain can also indicate congestive heart failure which would be extremely rare at your age but anything is possible. I suggest you seek medical help. It is better to be safer than sorry. Pleuricy can be treated with an antibiotic and pain medication in a very short time.

Since you are young, I wouldn't worry too much. Try having a hot bath! Once you have relaxed your back muscles, lie down as flat as you can, ie pressing your back right into the floor, and try stretching your spine. The pain you are describing I get every now and then and its a pinched nerve in my back, which radiates a sharp pain in my chest! Should your symptoms get worse though, go to your local hospital for a check up. Take care.

You are pretty young to have a heart attack, but anything is possible. I would say it is probably anxiety. The fact that you are worried about the chest painds does not help with your anxiety level either. I would call your doctor back and explain that you are having chest pains and see if you can be squeezed in. Otherwise, head over to the emergency room in your area.
Good luck

If you are struggling to catch your breath along with chest pains call 911 and get this checked out immediately. Do not try to drive yourself in case something happens while you are on the way to the hospital.

Majority of the time chest pains at that young age are from a bad stomach. If you are not healthy it could also be from your heart. You should go to a Dr. and get it checked out ASAP.

If you are really concerned, go the the E.R. You may be experiencing pychosomatic symptoms because of your anxiety. It could also be a panic attack. Panic attacks often mimic heart attacks. I know because I used to suffer from them. If you're not doing drugs (which I assume you're not) and don't have any medical conditions, then i'm going to say it may be anxiety, gas pockets, or something quite minor. Still, to be on the safe side, you may want to make a trip to the E.R. just so you can have peace of mind.

Dont wait - go and get checked at you local A & E dept. They wont mind - will put you on the ECG machine. Dont take risks with heart problems - better a false alarm than a heart attack in the making - good luck xxxxxxxxxx
