When I was in France we were offered cheese, fruit, juice, and coffee for breakfast with our choice of either a croissant, roll, or slice of bread with jam and butter. This was in a hotel, though. Breakfast at home is probably much simpler in France just as it is here in the US.

This is more what tourists in France eat, I suppose: restaurants, hotels, and cafes all over continental Europe tend to put on a nice light breakfast buffet. Typically there's some fresh fruit, some yogurt, some jam, a few types of bread and pastries, a few kinds of cereal, juices, milk, coffee, and tea, and a small selection of cheeses and cold cuts. When cantaloupes are in season you can score cantaloupe chunks, feta cheese and parma ham...nearly divine!

normal breakfast : coffee or tea (milk or chocolate milk for kids), fruit juice (orange mainly) pain grillé (bread in a toaster) with butter (for some people like me salted butter) and jam, and yaourt (? yogourt)

croissant is not so often since it's more expensive and you have to dress up to go the the baker to get some (we NEVER eat yesterday's croissant it's ugly to french)

Some of us do also some kind of brunch (i'm not sure it's en english word but it sounds like) : normal breakfast + english one (eggs, ham,etc...) but you need time for brunch so its more often on sundays.

Depending on region of france and season we can ahve some extra stuff like crèpes (french pancakes), pain d'épices (honey and spices bread), kouglof (alsacian cake) ,...etc. and for me fruits in summer and organges in winter.

i' have to leave i'm getting hungry ;)

I would imagine croissants, jam and butter washed down with coffee. Mushrooms in creamy sauce on croissants. Mmm, I am getting hungry.
