I'm trying to grow my hair , it almost covers my neck now. But it has an annoying kink to it, and has a mind of its own. I'd loce it to be straight, got the hairdresser to straighten it as i was going out at the weekend, it was well good. But i can't do that all the time. Not good for your hair i know to use the irons on it everyday. Its also expensive to get it done permanantly. But my attempts with the irons are not good i just don't seem to have the knack. Any tips?

you might try blowdrying it, with a large brush, then use a straightener on it,,,,, there are sprays you can put on your hair before straightening it that prevents it from being damaged,,,,,,, also, if you have it cut, all one length but have the underside cut about a quarter of an inch shorter, this will encourage it to go straight and turn under,,,,

After washing with a straightening shampoo/conditioner, towel dry your hair before massaging in some frizz ease hair serum (believe me, I've tried them all and this is the best). You only need a tiny bit and make sure you spread it evenly and don't dump it all over your hair.

For ultimate straightness, blow dry your hair first in a downward motion, as this makes it easier when you get to using your straighteners.

When using the straighteners, make sure they're heated fully, then part your hair into sections using hair grips. Do the underneath first and the top last.

If this all sounds like too much hard work, buy a pair of GHD ceramic straighteners. They're around £90 but that's the best money I ever spent. I have naturally long curly hair but I can go to straight in just 10 mins with them! Don't be fooled by the cheap imitations - these are the only brand to go for! I've tried them all.

Every one of my friends who've tried mine have ended up buying some. They really are worth the money and don't damage your hair (especially if you use protective oil before you straighten).

They're also the type most hairdressers use, so that would explain why you can't get the same effect

(PS - I've just read back through this, and I honestly don't work for GHD!!! I just wish someone had told me how great they were before I blew hundreds on other products & straighteners!!)

When it comes to my curly hair, I am told by my stylist not to wash it everyday. I will just make it frizzier because of the natural oils my hair needs. I blowdry my hair until it is just "almost" dry. (Get Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny and put that in first). I purchased a wet/damp/dry flat iron with curved plates. take a small chunk of hair and run that through until it is straight. Then, I use a little bit of smoothing milk from Garnier to tame whatever is left of the frizz.

If you don't like irons, I also use a big round brush with holes in th metal base of it. Still using the same hair products, rotate the brush in your hair as you blowdry.

Make sure you use a heat protectant while it is still wet. Try Nexxus Heat Protexx. Then, blow dry and use the iron. Don't set the iron too high or leave it in one spot too long - this will fry your hair! Finish up with a shine gloss (Biosilk is a good one). Don't wash your hair every day, just touch up with the iron.

You can blow-dry it straight with some straightening balm, so many are available these days. That's what I do. I use MOP/Aveda straightening balm. Also, apply some leave-in conditioner on damp hair prior to blow drying, that will prevent hair from over-drying. And some heat protective serum is a must.

If you wash your hair then rinse it in really cold water it relaxes the hair. Then, to avoid heat damage use a blowdryer on a cool setting to dry your hair or put in a relaxer creme and let it air dry combing through your hair every so often until it dries. Don't use a straightener everyday or a blowdryer everyday it fries hair.

I am : caucasian and I used a the "Dark and Lovely" hair relaxer. I go tit at Wal-Mart. It dried my hair out a bit and lasted about 6 months. Or you can put a perm in in but instead of putting in the rollers you keep brushing it straight. I don't know if this works really well but I have heard you can do it.

try and blow dry it straight. Salon quality irons are better for your hair and do a lot better job. They are pretty pricey though. The Conair Wet 2 Straight is amazing and about $40 you might want to give that a try too.
