Yes, marrying a cousin is certainly not advisable, as it might lead to several birth defects in the children of the couple. I know of some cases of this type. It is better to avoid it.
I believe in some societies, particularly in the Orient, this is an accepted practice and is encouraged by the parents with a view to retaining the family wealth within the family, but I am not sure if this information is correct... As for sex, there shouldnt be any problem from the physical angle but do consider the emotional one too.
There are enough girls in all societies to choose from. Is this cousin an exceptional one? If you want to go ahead, better consult a doctor, have proper blood matching tests done, and then decide.

Jerry Lee Lewis is notorious for having married his cousin. So are Charles Darwin and Albert Einstein. All three suffered for having violated a widely held social norm against "incestuous" unions. Yet there may be less reason for this norm, and for the laws enforcing it, than was once believed.
A panoply of state laws say cousin marriages are taboo. But a new report in the Journal of Genetic Counseling, described in the New York Times in 2002, might send state lawmakers back to work revising their incest laws.
The report concludes that cousins can have children together without running much greater risk than a "normal" couple of their children having genetic abnormalities. Accordingly, the report potentially undermines the primary justification for laws that prevent first cousins from marrying or engaging in sexual relations with one another

i learned about this is science class and there might be a problem with the children if you decide to have any because you both have some of the similar genes and cause chromosome mix up which leads to down syndrome and other different diseases. each person has 24 and when a child only receives 23 it causes down syndrome!!!! so i would consider the children part for a while

You're talking about your first cousin! The sex wouldn't be a problem ... sex is sex! Children present another set of potential problems. It's pretty well documented that children born to close family relations are more likely to be born with certain birth defects or other recessive genes. While that's not an absolute, why take the chance? Inter-family marriage is also socially unacceptable in most parts of the world. Snap out of it! You want to have a kid your friends are going to call "Monkey Boy" because he is?

There is a high risk for problems in pregnancy, not to mention there will probably be defects like cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, and other special needs children. I hope they are prepared for the problems this will cause. They should just forget about each other and move on... there are other fish in the sea.

That would be his 1st cousin, and illegal to marry in most states.
But recent medical studies are showing that their children have no more birth defects than other non-related parents.
Skives me out to think about sleeping with any of my cousins, yuck. But, to each his own.

Well, you should just say Has anyone Married Their Cousin. And YES, there are definite possibilities of complications, and unless that is common for your family, you would probably become an outcast with them, AND society. There are millions of people in the world. Why would you want to marry your cousin?

Cousins are too closely related to risk having children. its illegal for just that reason.
Birth defects are quite common in those situations.
