I'm turning 21 a week from today. I haven't had a drink yet... any suggestions for a good first drink that won't kill me?

The first alcoholic drink I ever had was hard cider. Tastes good and won't knock you on your butt. Also, an Amaretto Sour might be a good first drink - again, tastes good and isn't too strong. Have fun! Don't drive!

Don't mix your drinks. In other words if you are going to have hard liquor, stick to that the whole night. If it is wine - try different types of wines but don't have other types. If it is beer - have the whole night be just beer. You won't won't be killed if you mix your drinks, but you will certainly not feel good the next day. And there will be a Strong likelihood of you puking.

If it is beer you choose, go to a bar with many selections on tap. The bartender will usually let you try a shot glass of some of them if you ask. Sometimes if you go to a microbrewery that makes its own beer they sell a mini tray with a some of each of them in a small glass. Try light, dark and medium beers and see what you like. A corona or sierra nevada would be good starts for light beers, Sam Adams or Fosters for medium beers and Guinness is the standard for dark beers.

If it is wine you want to try I would try and find a wine tasting event. Vintner's let the public taste samples of their wine for free with the hope that they will decide to buy a bottle. If you live near any wineries you can visit them and do the wine tasting on site. Very often wine tastings have speakers that can tell you all about the fascinating history of wine. They often let you tour the wine presses and vineyards.

If it is hard alcohol you want to try - I like white russians, cosmopolitans, vodka cranberries, whiskey sours and rum and cokes. Be careful though - you'll get less quantity - but it is potent!

Happy 21st!

Well before you go out drinking I suggest you eat some mashed potato's or bread. Avoid acid type drinks so you don't puke and make sure that you drink water inbetween drinks so you don't get a hangover. As far as a first drink that all depends on taste I suggest something easy like any of the Puckers and sprite or 7up if you don't want fruity then try a beer. Good Luck!!!

You've never had a drink yet and you're 21, jeepers! You must be a real saint! Just pick something you fancy, depending on wether you like sweet/dry or bitter tastes. Don't go overboard though as you're body won't be used to the alcohol and you'll probably end up drunk after you're first glass of wine!

First, just let me say that if you don't want your first hangover, stick with the same type of beverage the entire night. Mixing different types of drinks can really get you sick the next day.

Since you've never had anything, I'd say beer or wine, or a somewhat light weight type of mixed drink. Maybe rum and coke. Happy Birthday!!!!

have a glass or two of wine. shiraz is my favorite. they definitly wont kill you but you should have a good buzz after 2 glasses. have fun. and be careful. i know the first time a drank i i thought i knew my body more. i felt fine one moment, so i was like what the heck so i chugged the rest of my glass and i was wasted. just to warn you, stand up and walk around before you ask for another drink. many times you dont notice how drunk you are while sitting.

You're just having your first drink at 21?

Amaretto & Pineapple is my favorite!! If it's fixed right, it will have some punch but it's usually sweet. Make sure they put a cherry in it.

Personally I am a wine drinker but if I must occasionally indulge with regular bar crowd I either go with Amaretto sours :) or Southern Comfort and coke

Hey, it's a celebration. Why not get an inexpensive bottle of champagne or sparkling wine. It's very tasty, and not so strong as to shock the system, or your tastebuds. :)

Just go slowly, the alcohol content will kind of sneak up on you.
