I watched a show on the Discovery Channel last summer where doctors confront old 'wives tales' like this. They looked at loud music as being damaging to ears (true). Looking at TV or a computer screen too long will ruin your eyes (false). The best cure for a hangover being asprin (false), another alcoholic drink (false) and eating (false). (Best cure was to sleep it off).
They also looked at people who crack their knuckles and future damage to joins if you do it. Turns out it was false. It does not hurt your knuckles at all.

Nothing really, I have been cracking my knuckles for about 6 years now and there has been no difference/pain in my knuckles. It's a myth you can get arthrits from cracking, all cracking is, is releasing nitrogen gas that is built up in your joints. So I wouldnt force my knuckles to crack, like out of a habbity, but just doing it when they are stiff is fine.

I'm not completely sure, but i heard from a reliable source that you get cauliflower fingers, which means the cartilage gets worn away so much that the body tries to make up for the cartilage loss by making a lot more in that area. the result is an excess of cartilage around the joint that looks like a cauliflower. So yes, your fingers do look fat. good luck stopping. i know i never could.

I admit that I have that habit and have been trying to quit doing it. My doctor and several Chiropractors, and Osteopaths have told me that it is not actually the joints that are popping. The noise comes from gasses between the joints being released. I do have arthritis in my middle finger on my left hand (I'm also left handed so it can get over-worked.)

they say that it could make your hands a bit bigger, a friend of mine have big hands, he told me that ist is because of his habit of cracking his knuckles, i don't know if it really is true and has scientific basis but still many people has this habit including me..

but in my own opinion it improves dexterity cause it loosens the stiffness of the knuckles

The more you crack your knuckles, the older you get, the more chances arthitis can set in, and it makes your knuckles get fatter.
