Every time my son who has asthma cries he throws up?? When I put him in timeout he ends up throwing up or if he even gets hurt. I am just wondering if that is a asthma thing and if so what can I do. I get tired of cleaning up vomit or running to the bathroom to be there with him cause it does scare him. Last night he fell of his bike came inside crying. threw up and asked my he does that..??? Don't know what to tell him. When I have to put him in time out I give a pan in case he can't make it to the bathroom and 9 times outta 10 he vomited in it. What can I do to help him from getting sick if anything. I know crying can flare up his asthma but he still needs to be corrected and disicplined but if it triggors an attack then what can do???

this does happen in children with asthma. my son has asthma and he has this happen too. he has emotional triggers and i sometimes dread having to corect him when i know he is going to get upset and have an attack and puke.

i just try to stay firm with him and say, "You Must Calm Down. Breathe deeply, you are fine. You must calm down and listen to mommy! Look at me and breathe slowly..." Once I have him calm himself down, I give him a breathing treatment if necessary, clean him up, and then we start over. Normally after he has gotten himself calmed down he will feel bad about the situation and go to time out and remain calm. I feel badly making him still go to time out BUT he needs to learn I won't always be there to calm him down and he has to do it himself. He is only 4 so it isn't a huge issue with us yet.

Whenever his asthma acts up, with whatever trigger, he normally ends up throwing up. He starts yawning uncontrollably and will then vomit.

Hope you figure something out. Can you try to break the cycle before it happens...1, 2, take 5 is a good signal to let him know he is getting worked up. He can take a few moments to regroup, put things into perspective, and then make a better choice on how he is handling his short time out.

Hope you figure it out! SD

Sometimes, when someone gets really worked up and crying, they accidentally gag on some mucuous and vomit. It's happened to me before as an adult. Just encourage him to blow his nose, breathe as normally as possible, and get him a drink of water.

Perhaps he has an overactive gag reflex? I have a friend whose son threw up every time he coughed and that was his problem. At any rate, you should see a doctor about it.

I don't think it's the asthma. He should probably be seen by a paediatric gastoenterologist.
