Every person has the right to believe in Christ or not to. There are hypocrites and/or uninformed Christians who can make Christianity look bad and other times the faith has just been misrepresented. However, do you really think it shows intelligence on YOUR part to insinuate Christians are idiots, or that believing the Bible literally is hilarious. You betray your ignorance. Some of the greatest minds who have ever lived have found reason enough to believe in Christ and the Bible such as Sir Isaac Newton or Blaise Pascal, and perhaps more convincingly many brilliant unbelievers throughout history have marveled at Christ, His contribution to the world, and His utter uniqueness among men. These are not reasons enough to believe by themselves, but at least do yourself the favor of not demeaning yourselves by acting like Christianity is something to get all cracked up about and casually dismiss with the flip of your hand.

Bahaus B...thx for your answer. He did believe there was a creator, but there is no evidence he was a Christian.

Paul S, you make some good points. Perhaps a lot of what you say is true. Christ DID say that God has chosen the simple to confound the wise to display His glory.

I don't think that one has to be particularly unintelligent to be a Christian, and in fact I know quite a few intelligent Christians.

Atheism generally requires more intelligence, though. Sure, there are exceptions (it'd be pretty hard to deny that there are some real morons on both sides of that divide running around here...), but in general because it asks challenging questions and offers counterintuitive answers, Atheism weeds out the less intelligent folks, and you will certainly find that atheists are, on the average, more intelligent than believers.

Christianity is also handicapped there by its intentional appeal to the least intelligent among us. That brings the average WAY down for Christianity, but of course is necessary for Christianity's survival.

None of that changes the fact that the core Christian beliefs (existence of God, life after death, souls) are false. Intelligent people believe false things.

There have been some very smart people that believed in religion, or at least gave lip service to it. (that is most likely)

But regardless, it's not about intelligence. It's about your willingness to suspend disbelief. Some people, regardless of their intelligence, are able to "turn off" their brain when it comes to a faith that brings them comfort. Atheists simply don't have this gene, apparently.

But yes, belief in the god of Abraham is laughable. And that's not an opinion of ignorance. It's very clear that Abrahamic religions are false. It's clear to anyone that does NOT suspend disbelief.

Any Christian in the world can tell you that it's silly to believe in Islam. They will laugh and explain how ridiculous such a belief truly is. But those exact same statements, when applied to their own religion, suddenly don't make sense to them.

But I guarantee you, Muslims believe in their religion just as deeply as the Christians do. And they use the exact same arguments to show why Christianity is silly.

The difference between the atheist, and the others, is that we apply those arguments to ALL religions. We don't have bias, and we don't suspend disbelief. We are intellectually honest. And that's all we ask of everyone else.

Edit - Bauhaus, Einstein was a secular Jew. I get so tired of people regurgitating false information... grrr.

I think some are intelligent, some are not. But the muslims probably are mostly unintelligent because even their beloved prophet was illiterate. And this I've read in many muslim books.
They believe even the most weird things like, "the sun is moving", "the sun rests in a puddle of mud" (as if it is very small), that kids "develpop from a clot of blood" and the like.So what do you say?

"Do what thou wilt is the whole of the Law."

I am not a christian myself, I am a Thelemite, however, I do not believe in Christ as a savior. I do believe though that his crucifiction was the start of the Aeon of Osiris which is the Aeon where all is criticized and killed and people worshipped death. Now however is the Aeon of Horus (since 1904 with the writing of the Book of the Law). Anyways, people believing in christ is their will. I dont believe it is wrong nor right. I believe him as another person on this earth who knew and has found his inner self a good man... We are all one. Do what you will. In a nutshell christians are not "idiots" hoever I don believe they need to crucify there egos (in the sense of get rid of them being individuals) and realize we are all god and that we all are one which is god.

"Love is the law, love under will"

No, i don't think Christians are unintelligent. I'm a christian, and i certainly don't think I'm unintelligent. It's just that there are a lot of Christians who take things too seriously. we know a lot more now than we did when the bible was written, but a lot of Christians choose to ignore that knowledge because it doesn't mention it in the bible, or because it contradicts the bible. however there are a lot of Christians, including myself, who embrace that new knowledge, and who are able to accept change.

..and the choir says, "AMEN!"
I heard the DEAN of a local university who is a Christian speak and he has a ton of degrees.

In my bible study alone there are 3 Engineers, 1 Pharmacist, me Dental Hygienist, and a lawyer. Something has made us believe. What many atheists don't know is we have asked many of the same questions they have, how did Noah get all those animals on the ark, is Satan real, is Hell real, Is God real, How can the bible be accurate, and on an on. We asked these questions and we found answers! I have a book that shows photos and talks about historical documents relating to the bible, and it's like 5" thick!!! There is ample proof if one sincerely looks.
Atheist's think about it.

Selfrighteous, arrogant, unwilling to think critically about their religion, yes...but not, as a group, stupid. But look, they HAVE got their religion pushed on to the rest of us - if you don't believe it just reach into that pocket and grab a coin or go to a public grade school and listen to the children get brainwashed with the prayer of allegiance. Don't mistake who's on top in this relationship.

I thought Albert Einstein was a Jew? Anyways, I know of many Christians who are Phd. and Masters degree holders, and atheists as well. I guess intelligence and belief are 2 different things and should not be mixed together.

I agree with what you are saying...just because you believe in Christ does not mean that you are unintelligent...Christians were told long ago that our beliefs would eventually be the cause of our persecution...being called stupid, small-minded and any other demeaning name is a form of persecution...I Love God and I believe Jesus died for my sins and just because this is what I believe and have faith in does not mean that I am unintelligent

I've heard it said like this - "The more educated people get, the more they think that their own wisdom is greater than those who have come before. The more humble the person, the more wise, it seems to me" (a very godly person wrote this). Christians are very intelligent - but they put their faith - not intelligence or lack of - in the hands of a Creator who made them and loves them. God is so good.
