A while ago now someone told me that its bad luck to wear silver and gold jewllery together. For example a silver ring and a Gold ring on the same hand same with necklaces.
I was just woundering if anyone has heard of this before ?
The thing is im getting married next year and at the moment my engagement ring is White Gold, but most of the wedding rings i have seen have been gold and I was thinking would it be bad luck to get a gold wedding ring when I have a white gold ring for my engagement ring. I know your suppose to get the same colour as your engagement ring but at the time i never really liked gold when now i do. Thanks for your help.

This is a dumb superstition and I'll tell you why.

Gold by itself is to soft to use as jewelry, so it is mixed with a combination of Nickel, Steel, and Silver. ALL gold has silver in it.

The only difference between white gold and yellow gold it that white gold has been chemically treated with a special polish. Otherwise, they are exactly the same materials.

I've never heard of that but I wouldn't get one ring of each not for luck reasons but because it will look stupid and like you couldn't afford a matching set. Also, I don't think that there is bad luck because there is no such thing as white gold all gold is gold. You can't change the make up so you don't find different colors naturally. The only reaon that white gold exists is because of the Rhodium on top of it. You need to get your white gold rings rhodium plated every 3 months to prevent it from changing back to the golden color. The higher grade of gold it is, the more frequently you'll notice the color change. If you never notice a color change in your white gold ring then that means you have low grade, cheap gold.

Yeah I heard of this when at school, Still wont mix , I now spend all my time explaining that my wedding and engagement rings are while gold and not silver as everyone seems to assume!
I would interpret it as fine as long as its white and yellow golds you are mixing as these are both types of the same metal, not gold & silver.
I have yellow gold shoulders on my white gold engagement ring, although my hubby and I have now separated so not sure if thats a good example!! As I designed the ring myself guess I only have me to blame!! lol!

I've never heard of that before.

I DO think that gold and white gold rings clash.

You could always just wear your wedding ring and keep your engagement ring either in a safety deposit box or your jewelry box, or pass it on to a brother/cousin/brother in law.

I dont believe in these superstitions. If this was so the jewellers wouldnt design wedding sets that have white and yellow gold mixed. I have a ring with yellow gold and inset it has white gold and little diamonds. It looks lovely. I see plenty of white gold rings about too. Look at ebay.

On the mixing of silver & gold...I mix it often..Gold is my favorite.
My daughter like you prefers white gold in EVERYTHING....when she and her husband began shopping for wedding rings last year they found a jeweler who was able to "special order" rings in their prefered setting, so you might try checking around in the area, sounds like you have enough time to order/have something made. If you're smart, enough to get engaged/married and it sounds like you are, then you know the bad luck theory is bunk.
Good Luck, dont stress and be a beautiful bride! :)

I have heard of this and I most definitely don't believe in it. It is just a superstition and you either believe in all that or you don't. I have worn a mixture of jewellery for years and wouldn't say I have had any more bad luck than the next person. I think people who say this just need something to blame for their bad luck. Bad luck happens all the time. How can gold be the cause of that?

Wear what you want and what you like I say and if you believe in all that superstitious stuff then avoid it.

I have heard the the Celts would not wear torques of two different metals at once because they thought it angered the gods.
White gold and yellow gold are the same metal just different colours. It is like a blonde and a redhead are both women. The superstition only applies to two DIFFERENT metals, not two different colours of the SAME metal.

Don't worry about it! Have a great wedding.

It's one i've never heard of, but what does it matter anyway? If you want gold, get gold! It's your big day and it's something you'll wear for the rest of your life. As long as you're happy with it why worry about the colour - Oh and good luck with the wedding! x

I think it stems from the fact that gold is quite soft; silver is harder, so might damage it if they rub together, rather than 'bad luck' as such.

I was brought up to wear either gold or silver, but not both together, as a matter of taste rather than luck. Also not to wear red and pink together, or brown with black, but nobody worries about these 'rules' any more.
