How many lines do you have to have to justify making the quote its own paragrach with single space?

I have one with tops 4 lines. Maybe 3 with a 12 font. Its not a complex thought.

I checked Turabian's Manual for Writers of Term Papers... for a ruling on your question. While I did not see a written rule, I did see examples of block quotes that were 3 lines and 4 lines, along with more lengthy ones. I hope this helps.

By the way, in the last couple of decades, most authorities on writing suggest that block quotes be avoided and that the writer summarize the meaning of the quote in his or her own words--but of course citing where the idea came from.
