Thousands upon thousands. You can purchase an aviation "sectional" chart online for a given region, which in addition to public airport, will also show you most private airports. For a close-up aerial view, check out Google Earth.

Nobody knows how many private airports, because some are not registered. The above link lists 20,334 public use airports in US and Territories.
Oh. I forgot, they all have names already.
Google earth should have most of the images.

Nobody really knows, as the term "private airport" applies to those as big as O'Hare Field in Chicago to the little grass strip behind my house from whence I fly my ultralights and my little two-seat Cessna. There are tens of thousands of those little grass strips all over the world, and every one of them qualifies as an airport, and most of them are privately owned...

in teh world??? im not sure, but you can go to the faa web site and look up all of the ones in the US its www.faa.gov there are a bunch airports in the country. so have fun looking them all up....if you want pictuers you can go the your local airport and get an "AFD" it will give you all of the info about all of the airports in your area, or for the area that you get the book for. some of them have a picture you can also try AOPA ONLINE &AIRNAV.COM

You've got to be kidding right? There is no freaking way to figure that out. About the only way to find out where private airports are located is to find them on a VFR sectional and even then it doesn't give you any information about it. Hence then term "PRIVATE" airport.

have you tried yahoo or google images?
There are more private airstrips (not airports) in the US alone than there are govt owned airports in India
