~They usually reduce the fines if you go to court. Best defense, you couldn't stop in time safely.~

Most people don't understand the law when it comes to running a red light. Your vehicle must completely clear the intersection, before the light turns red. If you enter an intersection before the light is red, but it turns red before you clear the intersection, then you have committed a violation. The officer must be able to see the light that controls your lane of travel. The officer can not determine that your traffic light is red by watching the opposing light at the intersection. Your best bet is to try and offer a guilty plea to a non-moving violation or ask about taking a driving course to keep the infraction off your record.

I would advise that you plead not guilty at arraignment and then try to work out a plea to a non-moving violation. If the prosecutor won't agree to a non-moving, reduction of fine, or reduction of points (if your state uses the point system) then withdraw your not guilty and plead no contest. You are not going to beat the red light ticket unless you have video proof of your innocence, no matter if you believe that you are innocent. Technically, if the light turns red while any part of your vehicle is in the intersection you are in violation. As a general rule of thumb, police do not cite people whose vehicles are past the plane of the intersection when the light turns red. The light can turn red before you reach this point, but already be out of your line of sight. Remember that yellow light means to slow down and prepare to stop.

THAT DEPENDS. DID U GET POINTS ON YOUR LICENSE? IF SO I WOULD TRY TO FIGHT AND GET THEM DROPPED AT LEAST. I DON'T THINK THERE IS MUCH U CAN DO ABOUT THE COST OF THE TICKET. I GOT A TICKET FOR GOING TROUGH A YELLOW LIGHT. I WENT TO COURT TO GET IT DROPPED AND I WAS TOLD I COULDN'T GET THE COST OF THE TICKET DROPPED. I WASN'T GETTING ANY POINTS ON MY LICENSE SO I SHOULDN'T HAVE EVEN GONE BECAUSE THEY DON'T DROP THE TICKET WHEN IT IS JUST A CASH AMOUNT NOT POINTS. I KNOW PPL WHO HAVE GONE TO HAVE THE POINTS TAKEN OFF. SOME TIMES U CAN GET LUCKY AND IF THE OFFICER DOESN'T SHOW THE CASE IS DROPPED NO POINTS NO COST. IF U R LUCKY THAT COULD HAPPEN.

If you ran it, don't fight it. Just pay the fine. You should be able to go to traffic school so that it doesn't show on your record if it's your first offense. Then, the insurance company never sees it.

Can you take time off from work to go to court, it so, fight. If not pay it. The best defence is it was yellow, that's what I'd say.

TRAFFIC SCHOOL : Get it removed from your driving record. Insurance can't see it but you still pay the fine. http://trafficschools.blogspot.com

if u hire a lawyer it may cost more but he could have your offense dropped to a lesser charge that wouldn't take points off your driver's liscense.
