There is power given to a person in America when you are labeled as a victim. If one claims to have been offended that on some level makes them a victim. Also this is a classic way to win an argument without having to actually debate or defend your views. If you claim the person has been offensive there is no need to respond to what they've said. It's like an automatic out. You see this a lot in debates on racial issues. The asker is called a racist and the debate is over before it begins. You would think people that were comfortable in their own beliefs would either be able to rationally defend their views or not justify the asker with a response. They take it a step further here though and attempt to discredit the asker by claiming to be offended.

Why do the non-religious get so easily offended and defensive? Goes both ways, have seen it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears. My questions are why must the non-religious attack the religious and why must the religious attack the non-religious. I am against anyone or anything that have to impose their views on others. If it was asked that is something different.

Offense is a choice we all take so easlily. True religion need not be defended or offensive as the truth will always prevail for those who seek and find the real Truth. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He was offended more than all of us and yet He never opened His mouth in defense. If we all followed His example, we'd have less offended people and less people asking these kinds of questions!

Persons who's beliefs are screwed on tight, that is to say that they believe without serious doubt, are not easily offended or defensive. Have you ever heard of serenity?

They are easily offended because questioning their religion is questioning their entire concept of reality. It is also insulting the memory of their dead loved ones, who they believe are now in "heaven".

Think about that. If you believed that without "god", your loved ones would cease to exist in paradise... that would probably tick you off, too, wouldn't it?

The fact is, religious people are (sorry to say it) brainwashed, and they are programmed to lash out at anyone that attempts to interrupt their programming. It's this kind of defense mechanism that has allowed religion to enslave a good portion of humanity for centuries.

I have yet to see any historical fact disprove religion. Fact is, it's the people that wave some sliver of evidence about a preconceived notion in our faces, treating it like it's a huge blow to religion, that puts religious people on the defense. Honestly, if it weren't for the parade-rainers, there would be a whole lot fewer zealots.

Why are there so many Atheists here bashing Christians? 9 out of every 10 questions is a slam in our face.

I have no idea. But I've always been told not to discuss religion and politics w/o getting into an argument. I pissed off some Muslims and they got me kicked off of here so I'm keeping my mouth shut from now on.

If they let anyone express doubt in rational terms they would risk having the whole house of cards come falling down on themselves.
