In the Puerto Rican culture cutting a baby's hair before one was bad luck - it just is. i also know that the Jewish culture has a rule, I think it's before 3 though. I waited till both my children were 1, a. out of superstition, and b., I was worried they would get hurt. My girls now have thick, shiney hair - one curly the other straight, so who knows if the old wive's tale is true, but that's what we go by in my family. I have heard of shaving a baby's head if it is too thin to help it grow in evenly & thicker. My cousin's mom did this, and now my cousin's hair is still thin.

Of course you can cut an infants hair. Some cultures don't cut it...but that's for religious reasons. My son was born with a full head of hair about an inch long all over. He had his first haircut at 6 months old as all had fallen out and grew back except for on top and he had a comb over. The more you cut it the thicker it should grow in.

My mom shaved my head twice when I was an infant and now it's down to my waist and thick... when I was a baby, it had the length but was so thin that you could wrap it around your finger and still see everypart of your finger, all it does is make it grow in thicker. I don't recommend shaving your infants head, but I don't think there's any problem with cutting it. I don't see the point in doing so though, unless it's really long and unruly, just put it in pig tails or something.

There was an old wives tale regarding growth of hair and cutting it before they were 2 yrs old. There is no reason not to cut the hair.Especially if you have a child that has long hair that comes in contact with their eyes.It can damage their eyes by scratching them. If you are concerned, ask your pediatrician. They can verify this for you.

If it is in their eyes...cut it...just be careful, wait until he/sher is sleeping and use hair scissors. I have never heard this before, my daughter is 2 and I cut her bangs all of the time.

of course u can cut it. it's a stupid superstition. in fact in some cultures the opposite is true - they shave the head in the belief that it will grow back fuller and curlier.
