As far as your ipod and book, no problem - two items that I never travel without. I would suggest that before you leave on your trip visit the TSA website http://www.tsa.gov/ they have the complete list of what you can and can not bring on the aircraft in your carry on luggage as well as you checked luggage.

Hope this helps and have great trip!

A book, Ipod, and cigarrettes are fine. But you won't be able to take a lighter. You'll need matches. Also, there are special restrictions on liquids, gels, and aerosols as you might know since you mentioned the liquid makup. Unless the liquid or gel is a medication with your name and matching your boarding pass, It needs to be 3 oz or less and in a clear quart size ziploc bag. You're only allowed one ziploc and you should remove it from your carryon so that it's x-rayed seperately. There's a website that describes this and all the other restrictions. (No clubs, sharp items, explosives, etc) The website is www.tsa.gov. Other restrictions may be defined by the airline. I don't work for US so I don't know them. Their website probably describes restrictions in great detail though it the big thing is carryon size. By the way, I work as a ticket agent so I do have some experience, but I don't work for TSA and supposedly the guidelines (specifically TSA's) are open to interpretation. I reccomend, when in doubt, ask. Ask before you part with your checked luggage because usually if you can't carry it on you can check it. Except for lighters. They're not allowed at all.

Its gotten very confusing, hasnt it? There is no problem with the I-pod, the book or the cigerrettes, but no lighters! Actually you can take liquid cosmetics, shampoos, medicines ect, but they have to be in small bottles under 3 ozs and put in a clear zip lock bag. When I flew home from St Louis a couple of weeks ago they even gave me a zip lock to put my lipsticks in.
