If you can swing $175-
get an Fuji F20 from NewEgg. They are currently including an xD card and a camera case. The Fuji's, unlike every other compact camera out there, can take photos in low light. And- their video capability in low light (i.e. indoors) is way better than the others. You'll be paying a bit more- but you'll get a camera who's image quality will rival anything under $500.

The Canon A530 is an excellent camera and can be found for as little as $130(US) at many stores. I believe its normal retail price is around $150. You can read a comparison of that camera to a very high end Canon SLR at www.kenrockwell.com.
Also, www.steves-digicams.com has a list of recommended entry level digital cameras and most of those are in your price range.

There is a web site www.alwaysbelowretail.com that has all makes and models of camcorders plus 50,000 other quality brand name products of every kind at approx 50% below retail prices. The best feature though is that they offer a full description of all the capabilities of every one. Great for finding out what they offer and compare it to what you need.

amazon.com, Canon A530 or A540 should both be in that range. A540 has 6MP and a much bigger screen, so, it's worth the extra $15-50.

I would try Overstock.com. They have great deals on really good cameras. I usually go to them for electronics because I think they have really good items with very reduced cost.

Kodak Easyshare. Even the 4.0 MB takes great pictures, and it is easy to use.
