My BF of about a year says he has a problem with presents, that it's very stressful. For my birthday we had a nice time going out, but he said "he knew exactly what he wanted to give me, but just hadn't had the chance to get it yet". This was over a month ago, and no mention of it since. Now for the holidays he says "let's not give each other anything, is that ok with you?" It seems a bit unromantic! Even a small gift is still nice, and he knows I'm not really materialistic

That is really unromantic, i agree, a man should at least give a card, to express how he feels! I would give him a card anyway, like every holiday, and see how he responds.. I dunno what else to tell you sorry.

not to be mean or offend you in any way, but it sounds like he just doesn't want to spend his precious money on you. I would be very upset if I dated someone for a year and they didn't even buy me a birthday present!? and not only did he not buy it, he lied to you about getting it. If you've been together about a year then you have probably been with him through his birthday, did you get him anything?
Now on to Christmas, I just cannot understand why he would not want to exchange gifts with you? Exchanging gifts is a BIG part of Christmas...something has to be going on. That just isn't right.
Last thing, when you all go out to eat or to the movies or anywhere on a "date" does he pay for your meal and movie??? or does he make you pay?
