My higher power is that which drives my conscience. I can feel this power through my connection with nature and the world around me and this power allows me to see beauty and love and hope. I don't know if this power comes through Jesus Christ like i've been taught. But I know there is a higher power because I feel it. I believe that all things are contingent. We all rely on something to survive, as does everything else. And there was a time when all things failed to exist. I believe the very existence of these things tells me there was something that always was. Something that always existed and for whatever reason propelled everything else into existence as well. This is my Higher Power.

This is actually a very interesting question to me, not because of the probable answers, but because of how we think of "higher power".
I don't have a "higher power", I acknowledge a Source that is most CENTRAL, most "of the essence'. That Source is in everything in the natural world, IMO.
"Higher" as a term for "more powerful" is related to animal behavior. It is related to authority and dominance in packs, and in single confrontations.
Animals who are trying to get another animal to back down swell themselves up to appear bigger, taller. Birds which are dominant sit on higher branches than the lesser birds. Anyone who owns a bird knows that you don't let it get it's head higher than yours, because then it thinks it's the boss. Dogs will adopt a lower position (on the back, with belly exposed) when they submit to the dominant posturings of another dog.
When you're training your dog, and the dog doesn't obey your commands, you adopt a "taller" dominant position to demonstrate your authority.
And the idea that "God" is in the sky or in the clouds or on top of a mountain is related to this kind of animal behavior.
I find it fascinating that this way of experiencing authority and dominance is carried over into religion. And it is revealing of the fact that for many people, "God" being "higher" has less to do with being loving or nurturing than with being dominant, with being who dictates the rules, who's the Big Kahuna.
