All deceases are with us for long long time.
Cancer:
Does not develop for long time, and the main reason is accumulation of casein, people use to die at age 30 to 35 so it was not known that much.
Aid :
It by itself does not kill any one, person looses the immunity to various deceases and dies of the illnesses such as cancer,......
It is slow to start with stays dormant for up to 5 years or more in some cases, and is fatal in most cases after that some can have normal life for 10 to 15 year after finding out.
First article were reported about it in 1945-46 time frame in JAMA.
The sexual revolution of 1960 produced the epidemic in 1970-1980. Death were always reported as cancer or some other causes, as the case may be. When some prominent people were infected and realised the need to make public aware of it, it was then out in the open, lots of innocent people were affected by it including children who received blood from infected people, through blood banks.

Cancer has been around since the beginning of time. Not just in humans, but in animals, too. We just have incredible diagnostic tools that have come up in the last few decades. My grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1951. They were only able to make the diagnosis after the cancer had filled the lungs and it finally showed in the xrays (which were nothing like the ones we have now). He died a month later. People then and before then just KNEW it was cancer by the kind of symptoms they had. Not that there was any way to treat it. All they could do was give you high doses of morphine and wait for the end.

there were no cures for those diseases 100 years ago, while today there are effective vaccines that prevent them and drugs to treat them with. HIV just became prevalent in the 1980s... so it hasnt been around that long. cancer risk rises as people age. most cancer cases are in people +40 years old. back in the early 1900s the life expecatancy was only about 40 or 50 (while the life expectancy is pushing 80 today) because there were no cures for diseases like smallpox and TB so people died of that stuff before they got old enough to die of cancer in large numbers. everyone is gonna die sometime, if we cure cancer people will live a little longer and then die of some other disease that is fairly rare at the moment.

Cancer has been around since humans first walked the earth. AIDS apparently came from some 3rd world country, and scientists have linked it back to monkeys, gorillas, or some such thing. They say (not that I believe EVERYTHING a scientist says) that this monkey or whatever bit an animal or a person and that contracted the HIV virus bringing it back to people. From there it has taken a hold of the world. Sad, but apparently true.

Cancers have been around since the earlist humans, however, as humans live much longer now,the likelihood of developing cancer is much greater than before.
As for AIDS, its exact origin is quite a mystery, but it probably originated in chimps.
