the alcohol percentage % is written on the front of the label, sometimes it is less in a dessert wine

you probably can't detect the alcohol taste b/c the wine is so sweet that it covers it up

Alcohol level of sweet wines is generally lower than dry wines. That is because fermentation was stopped before all the sugar has been converted to alcohol, thus the sweetness.

It is easy to see the amount of alcohol, since the label will show the amount of alcohol by volume as a percentage, thus on a wine label you will see something like 10.5% abv.

(the exception in sweet wines is wines that are fortified such as Port/Sherry etc. These have had brandy added to stop fementation, and thus although they are sweet they also have around 19% abv,)

When a wine ferments. Sugars are converted to alcohol. The drier the wine more sugars have been converted to alcohol. This is especially true of German wines. You can tell the sweeter wine between two choices by looking at the alcohol content on the label. The sweeter wine will have the lower alcohol content.

There are regular sweet wines and dry wines, but dessert wine is something different.

It usually comes in a smaller bottle and has a high alcohol content and is more viscous (like a liquor) than regular wine.
