Don't knock the Spanish spelling and pronunciation. In Spanish, each letter stands for one phoneme (sound - more or less) and anyone who has studied it for a couple of weeks will be able to pronounce EVERY new word accurately just from how it is written. English is the oddity, where much of the older spellings have been kept even though the words are now pronounced differently. E.g. Old English 'eahta' pronounced 'ay-ach-ta' > Modern English 'eight' pronounced with no hint of a 'g' or h'.

Haha. Not so weird!! The pronunciation spanish is more of an english H sound. But in Portuguese it is J like George or Joke. Try it both ways... Languages are cool!

The J in spanish roughly translates to an H sound,
Jose = hosay
Juan = Hwan

and so on.

It's about as weird as gnat being pronounced "nat". Or knob being pronounced "naub".

Different languages may pronounce letters differently.

In Spanish, the letter "j" is pronounced like the English "h".
The letter "h" in spanish is silent (like the g and k in my english examples above).

it's not weird at all, you simple don't have the proper letter in English, and Spanish have some letters taken from Arabic that an English speaking person finds very difficult to pronounce.

it's not weird, it's a language difference. are you weird for pronouncing a "j" as a "j" rather than an "h" or a "y" even though the spanish pronounce it "h" and the germans pronounce it "y"??
