Fantastic 80's kit ch, very unhealthy though. We hosted a Fray Bentos Pie evening a couple of weeks ago and it was a huge success, served with tinned mushy peas and instant mash.....what a hoot we had!

Hi i love them especially the pastry and the soggy bit underneathe the crispy topping. Not too keen on the meat, but i will just eat them because of the pastry. They are good value for one person or two, but if you try to feed a family the protion sizes arent very big.

Man, you found one of my guilty pleasures !

They definitely ain't good for you but they're a good slab of stodge, guaranteed to make me feel better. Also the cat loves to lick the plate.

They do have fairly deep rimmed tins though - your standard tin opener might not always do the job. I wrote to them pointing this out and received my own Fray Bentos branded tin opener by return of post. Everyone I know seems to find this incurably lame - can't think why......

Generally I'm not a fan of processed food but I do like these pies, they're quite tasty. The pastry lining the bottom is always slimy though.

They are quite nice. I love the flaky top. Yes, I agree they are good value. They are also handy if you have unexpected guest arrive for dinner. You can keep a couple of pies in your cupboard without the fear of them going bad.

I think they're great! What a quick and easy dinner, just put some fries in the oven too and presto, you're all set. I know they've got a lot of sodium in them, though, but oh well, once in a while is okay!

Frey Benton are to Pies what Moscovitch is to motor cars.
A Tesco's family steak and kidney pie for about £3.00 is far better.

They have to be cooked for ages if they're to be any good.

But as pies go, they tend to be quite generously filled.

In fact that's something that annoys me. Even expensive pies skimp on the filling.

Better to just make your own pies.

Yuck - not keen on them at all! However hubby loves them - pity he won't clean the oven once the Bentos pie's cooked though!
