If you use a ceramic iron, it does not hurt your hair. It actually helps it by sealing the hair and prevents split ends!
Before I blow dry, I put mousse in my hair to protect it from the intense heat. Thermasilk really helps, too.
My hair has never been healthier since I started ironing!

Yes, they do. I do not recommend using cheaper straighteners because a lot times the heat is not evenly distributed and you get burned sections of hair. An infrared ceramic is probably your best bet.
Also, get a product that is a heat protector. There are many at sallys beauty supply and a couple at walmart.
Try not to straighten it everyday.

The heat can damage your hair. You should use a product that prevents heat damage. You can get them at walmarts. Also not using the iron every day would help alot too. Switch it up some, and go with different hairdos.

First of all it depends on how thick is your hair, I use it almost once a week but I have very thick hair. I think it still does some damage, specially to my ends. Try to use it not very frequently and always use a leave in conditioner to help the hair keep its moisture. If you see that you start to loose more hair than usual, stop using it.

Probably not as long as you get the professional one & you use some styling product on your hair before. Don't settle for the cheap ones. They will damage your hair. Go for the ceramic plated flat iron. They prevent breakage because they don't pull your hair. If you want to read more, visit this link I have provided.
