Hi i dont know why they put them in, they may think it makes the burgers taste better. I always take them out or just ask for no gherkins. Plus i know someone who got food poisoning after eating on so i dont eat them just in case. I admit i accidently ate one because i hadnt been to McDonalds in a long time an so i just took a bite out of it. I only remembered why my boyfriend took his gherkin out of his burger, Its was too late then i had already ate it. YUK.

They don't use "gherkins." They use pickle slices of the NON-gherkin variety.

Why do you call their pickle slices gherkins?

They put pickle slices in their burgers to make them taste better. Without them, the burgers would taste a bit bland. I wish they put more in them.

If they did not contain gherkins the burgers would be classed as desserts - due to the amount of sugar in the bread.

Yes, in fact the burger wouldn't be right without it. I take them from my friends and throw them all into my burger. A picked delight. You should try them whole, get a jar they always sell well at xmas

If you want a serious answer to your question, here it is:

There is so much sugar in the bun of their burger that, unless they put the gherkins in them, the food has to be classified as confectionery. (this was straight from the mouth of a store manager)

And - no, I don't like them either.
