The war started on September 1st, 1939 and victory over Germany was declared on May 8th 1945. Victory over Japan was declared on August 14th 1945.

So I would say that the war lasted 5 years, 9 months.

Well WW2 started in 1937, when Japan invaded China. The offical end came in 1951 when the US occupation of Japan ended. So WW2 lasted for 14yrs.
