Don't you think there are enough homeless animals?
Breeders of cats and dogs suck!

It sounds like you would be better off contacting a Sphynx cat club than asking for advice on here!

There is a forum on this site - which also contains lots of information, etc.
http://www.sphynxcats.co.uk/

I'd also go along to a show near you & have a chat with the exhibitors. Hopefully, you'll find someone friendly, who loves the breed & who cares about its welfare, willing to chat with you & discuss all the pros & cons of becoming a breeder.

It's not the sort of thing that you want to get into thinking that you will make a lot of money. It has to be for the love of the breed. Have a read of this site:
http://home.earthlink.net/~sarsenstone/brdcosts.html

I'd also recommend, that before you start breeding, you build up a healthy balance of spare cash - you need this spare cash as 'just in case' money ... vet fees can be so expensive.

On the other hand, if you've really thought hard about it, are prepared to face the bad times along with the good (sometimes kittens die or their mothers get sick), you have enough money to look after your cats & enough space to keep the ones that you don't rehome, and if you've really researched your breed, really love it & think that you can make a difference, then go for it.

I know that there are lots of cats & kittens needing good homes but they are not generally the ones bred by responsible breeders. A responsible breeder offers to take back any kitten that they have bred if the new owners circumstances change. Often, you'll find that responsible breeders have pet cats too - often rescue ones. I'd argue that there is a place in this world for responsible breeders... though admittedly in places like the USA there do seem to be loads of pets looking for good homes (looking at the petfinder site is just heartbreaking). It's the ignorant & the 'farmers' that are causing the problems - not the responsible.

First, I agree, there are too many stray cats for people to be hopping on the breeding bandwagon like this. Breeding is not done for money, it's done to improve the breed. If you had been working with owning sphynx for years, attending cat shows and showing your cats, talking to other cat breeders, studying the breed and the traits desired and not desired, you would already know everything you need to, and would not have to ask. A REAL, true, responsible breeder has knowledge and love for the breed, and breeds ONLY because he or she knows she can make a positive contribution to the breed- not because they're cute and expensive.

If you want to be useful to the animal world, why don't you invest your time in energy in rescue work and try to find homes for the thousands of cats that will be euthanized tomorrow? Or the next day? Or the next? Those animals will be much more grateful to you for your efforts than a sphynx would ever be to have you forcing her to pop out babies left and right.

Spay and Neuter!!
