People try not to scare you...but the stories alone are freaky! But they say it's really painful! I think the pain lasts for about a week! Yep, your face swells up so much it looks like you have tennis balls in your mouth! Plus, your cheeks will be blue!

First, wisdom teeth are deeply rooted and I suggest that you select a dentist who has performed wisdom teeth extractions more than once. To remove all 4 teeth during the same extraction might sound like the best, but remember extraction of wisdom teeth are not the same as extraction of other teeth. If you want all 4 removed during the same extraction you should look for a very experienced dentist with all the proper equipment and a good clinic with assistants, and you should have this done while you are out from the proper anesthetic. You mentioned that the two top teeth are decayed and likely there might be need for some surgery and you do not want to have that done using local anesthetic. Those decayed teeth might break off during extraction and to remove the roots could take some time. Hope that you do get more consultation and select a dentist who is experienced in extracting wisdom teeth. antonius

I had my wisdom teeth taken out about 2 years ago. Two were impacted and two had already started coming out. I went for the operation and it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. After the operation the two worst parts where: 1. That I was still very much affected by the anesthetic and so I could hardly open my eyes, and 2. That my mouth was numb and it's just a horrible feeling. The pain was very bearable! Really not that bad and I had no swelling-mainly cos they have the new ultra sound thing or whatever it is that helps with the swelling! After 5 days I was eating proper foods again and before that, from the day I had the op, I was eating regular, but not major foods! It's not that bad, and it's worth getting them taken out if it's necessary! Good luck! :)

It's not too bad , Most Dentist will Put you to sleep for the Extraction , If you take the Pain meds , You should be OK. Sure it's gonna hurt a Bit , but it would hurt more if you didn't get it extracted ! An when i had mine out my Face didn't swell .. I guess that will depend on how your body reacts to pain ! Much Luck !!

Well I got all 4 of mine out the same day (wich is a very good thing), and it didnt hurt at all. But what you really need to do is either pay to be knocked out through an IV, or get laughing gas, it REALLLLLLLY helps alot. And once you come out of the surgery youll be a little groggy, but you wont like be dead tired or anything. Your face will be really numb though from all the shots they give you to numb it up. But during the next day (depending on how many shots you get) it will all go way. And your face does swell just a tad. It wont balloon up or anything bad at all. But it will be noticible. But dont worry, it dosnt hurt at all really. Just a little bit of pain the first day when you try to open yout mouth too wide. No worries :)

The extraction itself will be painless. It shouldn't take too long, without complications it can take less than 30 minutes for 4 teeth. The best method I believe, is using laughing gas and valium for the actual surgery. General anesthsia will prolong your recovery and you'll actually feel worse.
How you feel after the extraction will depend on the size of your mouth, the condition and health of your gums, and your own comfort. I would only take the 800mg Ibuprofen after the surgery unless you really need something. Percosets and vicadin will make you feel clumsy and prolong the amount of time it takes to feel You again.

Not as painful as trying to live with a bad one! There will probably be a bit of swelling, use ice packs. You might get a prescription for a pain reliever, but most people get relief from a good over-the-counter analgesic.

yeah it swells up a little and it can be achey for a couple days. doesnt really hurt much the 1st day at all. late on the 1st day or the second day is when the pain comes then it gradually goes away in a couple days (and its not a horrible unbearable pain, its just achey). i had pretty much no pain though just from taking advil (never filled the vicodin script the dentist gave me). i had mine out first thing in the morning and i went to work in the afternoon. but people's experiences seem to vary, i was worried before i had it done because one of my friends went on and on about how he was bed ridden for days. but personally i didnt think it was that bad for me

i just took out mine...no pain at all..the swelling depends on individuals;some swell a lot while some don't..don't worry abt the pain;think of the end result:) my surgeon gave me some painkillers before the op..think it really helps..i was lucky in the sense my experience was very good with little swelling n discomfort..thanks to my surgeon..find a trusted surgeon and u will be fine..don't read too much abt other ppl's scary stories..just get it done n over with..good luck!
