Please recommend a decent CD / DVD burner. Something that is fairly easy to use and reliable. Thanks in advance.

NERO 7 is great, really easy to use. You can download a trial version for free from the NERO website. It's 180Mb or so, so takes a while to download, but just set it up and come back in an hour and you can try it for free for a month.

Depends on your budget. They all seem to do a good job.I use a double layer .It cast around $70. Watch out the DL type want you to use a DL type dvd and i did'nt know that.It cost a bunch more for those dvds.I seen 5 for like $20. You can use other's but you need to search for the right program. So check what dvds it will run.( Also i heard their getting ready to change the formatt where dvd may not play in them.
