I suspect you've got a cheap (and illegal!) foreign import. Firstly if you change the plug or use an adapter make sure that the "tree" is designed for our voltage (240V) and not a continental one, and still bear in mind that if it IS an import (and hence the Edison screw fitting) it's illegal anyway. All electrical items sold in this country must have a FITTED plug - and that doesn't mean one fitted by YOU !

ooooooo I smell trouble....
You can buy a screw in, two prong outlet at your local hardware store... BUT!!!!!... be VERY careful that you DO NOT EXCEED THE WATTAGE of the fixture!
Those wattage limitation warnings do not only apply to heat from an installed lightbulb.. they also have to do with the limitation of the wiring you dont see inside (or above, etc) the fixture. A standard light fixture... rated at 60 watts, for example, does not have a gauge of wire inside it heavy enough to handle 200 watts! So do not overload your fixture! (let me put a few more !!!! in here for emphasis ) :)
And if you mean the 'tree' has a screw in adapter, instead of a plug... you can go the reverse... but be aware of the AMPS... most wall outlets are only rated at 15 amps!
Be Careful

Ohhhh SPACEMAN.....You make me laugh...
Yes there are adapters for screw in bulbs...just as long as your not pulling MASSIVE current and running multiple Christmas trees you'll probably be okay.....just don't run a microwave or toaster on that setup....you'll start an electrical fire.....
