The UK will make its final payment to the US of £45.5million on 31 December.

Many Americans love to tell us that they 'saved our a-ss' in WWII, and it is true that they (and particularly the Russians) defeated Nazi Germany which the UK couldn't have done on its own.

But the US charged a massive price in both land and gold and had the satisfaction of seeing the UK lose its empire and dominant position in the world, a position that the US has taken.

While the US was generous in aid for its former enemies after the war, it screwed its 'ally' the UK.

Land around the world was made over to the US, there are still numerous US bases in the British isles.
