how can nurses' beliefs, knowledge and understanding of the need for holistic care enhance the quality of the patient/client experience

Because a persons various systems have got to be cooperating with each other in order for the cure or treatments to have the best effect. A holistic approach therefore will include not only medical care but a lifestyle change will be included.

1- There are several important religious books in the Hindu tradition including The Holy Vedas, The Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. 2- Many Hindus are vegetarian, but this is not always the case. 3- There are many religious holidays and observances throughout the year. Three important ones are Mahashivaratri March 6, Holi March 21, and Diwali Oct 28. 4- Religious cerimonies are usually performed after birth and death. Hindus are generally cremated after death. Leave this up to the families involved. 5- Be respectful, courteous and caring as you would with all human beings under your care!

They should consider the whole person with the illness and not just the disease and it's effects. That is for example know the patients name and not just by the illness he has. Such as that's the one who has pneumonia, you have a name when you go in, why not while you are there. They should also consider the effects of the illness on the person. For example a steeplejack with an inner ear problem will be warned to keep off heights for his own benefit. That's not told but explained cause and effect. Then the steeplejack can make his own mind up.

Quiet a lot of diseases are psychosomatic in nature and hence holistic approach will help the patients.

In treating the whole person you are not just treating them as an illness, people feel more comfortable, better cared for and get better quicker.
