My friend said to me that if I pull a grey hair out more will grow out of that same place. Is this true? or is it an old wives tale?

I would not believe in this magical solution. Just take a look
at an old lady that pulled eyebrows when this was in fashion
back in the 30‘s and 40‘s or earlier. Thin eyebrows were the
fashion, and especially amongst the French oriented beauty.
I speak as a photographer and not as a hair specialist. Well,
these same ladies, now in their 70‘s to 90‘s don‘t have any
eyebrows at all. So they are drawn in with a cosmetic pencil!

Logic alone, asks me "how do you know if you are plucking
the same single hair, or is it another"? So, logic also indicates
that if you continue to pluck the same hair over many years,
that single one will go for ever. Now, how do you know if it is the
same strand or a different one? Conclusion; if you continually
pluck the same one, it finally gives up and is gone forever. I am
a lot older now and photography is a hobby, and I photograph
many elegant ladies in their 70‘s and 80‘s who have no hair at
all. I help out a little by drawing a line back, where once there
was hair, using my iMac computer. This is a true story, take it
or leave it, independently of what the hairdressers tell you!

Yes that is an old wives tale. Although hair is growing all of the time and when it is turning grey it could well be replaced by more grey.

If only it were true...all the old boys with a few grey hairs would be pulling them out by the handful and in about 6 months they would have a full head of hair...if only

This is an old wives' tale. It just makes the new ones more noticeable if you're looking for them all the time. Hair goes grey because of heredity, the aging process, or sometimes due to dietary deficiency.

I have heard the same thing, but through experience I have found that pulling one grey hair out just makes that one hair grow again!

The more hair you pull out the less you grow back only if it is not dyed. But statistics and the web shows that grey hair is caused by cleverness even if your old.

It is an old wives tale. If you pull a hair out it will regrow on its own whether it is grey or not.

No this is a myth but once a hair has gone grey, it means that the folicle it grew from has lost its pigment (the thing that gives your hair its natural colour i.e blond, brown, black etc) so another grey hair will grow back in its place so whats the point of pulling it out when its just going to come back grey anyway? I would get some hair dye.

it is definetely not true. For a period of a year whilst being badly bullied at work I was producing lots of grey hairs which I pulled out as I saw them. Nowadays thanks to a promotion and some decent colleagues I have no more grey hairs. I also suggest relaxation or yoga etc etc. good luck
