My upper wisdom tooth is biting into my lower gum and has caused a lesion that has now become infected and swollen and very painful. What can i do? I am taking antibiotics for the infection, but i cannot close my mouth because of the swelling. Would trimming my wisdom tooth make a diffrence now that it's already swollen? If i wait, will the swelling go down, or now that i'm biting even more into it, will it become worse? I do not want to have the opposing tooth taken out. Please.. i am in serious pain.. any suggestions? Thank you!

I had the exact same problem a few years ago! I went to see my dentist and they put me on some anti inflammatory pills to get the swelling down. They told me it was best to extract the 2 upper wisdom teeth. The answer is to see your dentist!! Get them out before they cause you even more pain later in life.

Hi there.
Keep taking your antibiotics and use a salt water rinse. We were given extra teeth and the myth was they give us wisdom. Unfortunately, wisdom teeth are extra and unnecessary. I highly recommend having the one, if not all 4, removed. I was a dental assistant for years and have seen alot of wisdom teeth "gone bad". The lesion will not heal if that tooth keeps hitting it. A less logical approach certainly would be for the doctor to 'grind down' that tooth however that opens the door to a million more problems. It will get worse in the long run. With out seeing your radio graphs based on what you have described...remove the wisdom tooth.

We don't need wisdom teeth. they are more of a inconvenience. Get them pulled. You will feel so much better.
