some sources said he was trained by a bishop and even if that's not true Mohammed had had interactions with Christians and Jews.

As we all know, Christians are bible thumpers (like me) and they like to share the message.

Plus, the stories in the Koran are different from the Bible (slight changes).

I think asking this question is very relevent. Don't like it, don't answer.

Back then, 99.99% of people were illiterate. Only the wealthy and educated could read. Mohammed was also illiterate. Even 60 years ago, most people in Saudi Arabia were illiterate. Only after the discovery of oil, the oil based economy made it possible to have publicly funded education systems. It is very common in Saudi Arabia that teenagers are able to read, but their parents are completely illiterate.

Most young men in Saudi Arabia are able to read. All the youth are educated, but the problem is with senior citizens, mainly they are not able to read.

Before the Prophet Mohammad, most Arab people where not able to read, but After his message, the number of educated people was more and more, due to Islamic teachings about learning and thinking. By the way the very first word of Quran is "Read!".

Seriously, what is your intention ???

There is a time difference of 2000 years when Mohammed was in Saudi Arabia and now.
Before you ask the literacy rate of Muahmmed’s followers, you should be concerned about your own knowledge and ignorance !

I KNOW..

The first vesre in Quran revealed unto Muhammad was "Oh Muhammad Read" .. as an indication to the importance of reading and education in Islam..

Whay was he illitrate then?? !!

To prove that Quran was revealed to him from God, how could he tell all the stories of X-prophets and tell Christians and Jews at his time of what was in their books if he could not read or write unless this was revealed to him by GOD?

You will never receive an authentic answer for this question, much like if you were to ask, At the time of Jesus/Moses/Abraham how many of their followers are able to read.

at that time most of his followers were literate.
as far as now is concern, unfortunately most of the muslims living in whole world are illeterate. thats why they are facing problems. its all because of worst dictatorship they are facing. most of their rullers dont spend money on education, instead they spend money on their lavish life.
