There are two schools of thought about the Bible among Christians.
The first is that the Bible is the word of God, a miraculous document written by God through the hands of people. According to this view, the Bible is without errors, and all other facts must be in line with what the Bible says or else it is wrong.
The second is that the Bible is the "cradle of Godliness", a document that is inspired by God, but written by men. According to this view, the Bible should be read so that a person can grow in faith. The Bible may have factual errors (the most discussed being 1 Kings 7:23, which seems to claim pi=3,) and the Bible may even have sections that don't really reflect a holy lesson (such as Exodus 21:7, which seems to encourage selling your daughter into slavery.)
I bet you could find proud, presumptuous people on both sides of that argument.

I don't know, maybe it's because the bible mentions dragons, sea monsters, and unicorns. Maybe it's because it describes a god who withholds knowledge from man and labels the being that encourages human growth as "evil". It could be that it gives the reason for the sky's blue color as being because there is another body of water above it - and I quote:
Genesis 1:6-8
And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
Maybe it's because the Bible postulates a human race that's only about 6,000 years old when the fossil record shows us starting about 2.4 million years ago. It could be that the Bible describes a petty god who believes in genocide (check out the Book of Joshua) and that menstrual women are impure (for a whole load of crazy laws, take a look at Leviticus and Deuteronomy for yourself). It also might just be because Christians somehow reconcile their belief that god had to incarnate and die because humanity was purely incapable of following the "law of life" with the direct quote from moses that:
Deuteronomy 30:11-16
11 Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. 12 It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, "Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, "Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" 14 No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.
15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
It might be any of those that lead us to believe that Judeo-Christian thought is a load of garbage and that the Bible is nothing more than a collection of myth - and bad myth at that.
All the best,
Laz

Friend, I am an Apostolic Pentacostal by experince, & not only by words. I was saved & Baptized in the Name Of the Lord Jesus Christ & I received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost On July 22, 1971 On a Thursday night tent meeting, Anything that is truth Satan will use people to always try to agitate us, & it will get worse, But our Victory Day is close, That is why satan is using highly Educators Dummies, That don't know how to blow their nose let along tell us what the Bible means, All my education has been down on my knees, & God has given me the revelations of many prophecies, In Daniel & Revelation, In Zeph. In Zeck, Amos, Isa. Hosea, Micah, Malchia. & so on, But to this day I am still learning something new each day. I am not anyone special, only a willing vessel, That God had place the Gifts of Tongues & Interpretation of tongues & Prophecy in my life, & I say all this as humbly as I know How. Just as how many people knows what those 75 days extra are in Daniel 12:9-13 , You come up with first 30 days extra beyond the alotted time for the ant-christ to rule, & then again you come up with 45 days more again. a total of 1335 or 75 extra. We see Christ with his Bride in Rev 19:14 coming to rule & to reign, But they will not touch this earth yet when they come, why, those first 30 days will be armeggedon foungt That will be the first 30 extra days, Then do we expect Jesus to sit & rule in a temple that has been polluted by the anti-christ, no, Those 45 extra days is for the cleansing of the temple. now In Daniel we also see a group of people that the bible says Blessed is he that waiteth & Cometh to the 1335 dys, Why are these people blessed, Because they survived the anti-christs, & Amreggeondon, & Now they have Very good Morles about them, God will allow then to cross over into the Millennium to help re-populate the earth, That is why they are blessed.

The Jews are Ancestral worshipers
They worship David, Abraham, Moses = Ancestors
I am an Ancestral worshiper too.
I still make animal offerings to my ancestors = the Hebrew used to do it
Bible is a fable = No record of Jewish slaves in Egypt...maybe 100 Jews were working in an Egyption village. Maybe Moses was a crazy idiot who started cutting baby Egytion's heads off

Bible
New Testament
Written in 80 A.D. and not directly by anyone who was alive during Jesus's time.
Matthew, Mark, and Luke accepted as the Synoptic Gospels in 325 A.D. after 51 such Gospels were presented and argued over for a year.
Gospel of John rejected for 100 year afterwards and considered heresy because 'John' died of a drug overdose in a Turkish opium den in 170 A.D. while writing Revelations.
Gospel of Mary Magdalene, Timothy, Thomas all rejected as they portrayed Jesus as a Prophet and not as a Deity. These three Gospels were the only ones written by the Apostles themselves.

Some of the new testament conforms to history. The old testament draws on events supposedly occurring thousands of years before the author was born. Certainly genesis reads like a third grade story book and is a fable.

Presumptuous? Possibly. But aren't you being a bit too dismissive? A good number of intelligent people consider the Bible a fable because they DO know it.
I've read the Bible through twice and find it rather interesting reading, but there is nothing that can make me believe it.
Must you try so hard to be offensive to other beliefs YOU know nothing about?

You assume that people don't know anything because they disagree with your faith? They apparently know enough to properly conclude that much of the bible is obviously folklore, mythology, or fable.
Who is thinking more clearly, a person who believes that genesis is fact, or a person who thinks it is a fable?
It is not a presumption to say that many parts of the bible are fable; rather, it is a fact.

Christ was considered personna non grata by most people in Jewish culture. It should not surprize you that the majority of people on this earth do not believe the Bible is the inspired word of God! It is a dangerous thing to say you were baptized by the Holy Ghost! God instituted baptism as a sign and seal of the new covenant, and we are not saved by formalitys such as baptism, confirmation, or anything that God has instituted as a sacrament for our benefit, so that we have something to assure us that we are in union with the Spirit. God already knows you, and He does not have to have a visual formality to assure Himself that you are one of His. He has written your name in the Book of Life even before you were born, Ask your pastor or priest about predestination. Repent, and believe, and you will be saved.

we have many proofs that the bible is not just a story. most people have a hard time believing in what science can not prove or show them.look at your belief as buying a lottery ticket, you may have a 0 and 1 mil chance that god exists or you may have a 1 in 1 chance that he exists and if you choose not too get a ticket you have a 0 chance. i choose too get a ticket and have faith, if he dont exist then i still live a better life on earth either way.
