I think after a number of years you can give blood again, something like 5 I think, but I could be wrong. You have to make a choice, either get a tattoo, or be a blood donor, choice is yours.

Rubbish people!!! And I just confirmed with the Blood Bank.
You have to wait 4 months from having your tattoo, before you can give blood again. It DOES NOT dirty your blood. It is just in case you get an infection from the needle, and to give the tattoo time to scab over and heal. If you go to a decent tattoo parlour, this will not be an issue. I have a wonderful Tattoo of a Dragonfly on my butt, and have been a blood donor for years. Get your tattoo Hon, wait the 4 months, and then start giving blood.

Get the tattoo, hon. You'll be fine.
In most states, there is a 12 month waiting period (check with blood bank nurse) after getting inked (or pierced in some caes) but after that you are free to donate blood UNLESS you have contracted a disease during your body modification process which will NOT happen if you go to a clean reputable shop with experience professional artists and piercers.
They will test your blood for the usual suspects but if it is clean they will allow you to donate, just as you did prior to getting your mod. Having ink doesn't make your blood dirty...having a poor tattoo artist could result in bad blood. Just be careful, do your research, and find other ways to help out for your year san blood donating!

After getting blood you are deffered from giving blood for one year unless you have it done at a doctor's office then you can give blood. The reason for this is because doctor's offices use non-sterile needles which means that they only use the needle on one person and then throw it out. This doesn't mean that blood donation centers don't trust tatoo places but you can never be too careful. Using just one sterile needle can result in AIDS and that is a permanent deferral.

Check out your state regulatations. I have a few tattoos and have never been denied donating blood as long as it was outside the 6 month waiting period for my state. If you really need to donate blood you may want to donate some before your tattoo, and as always i suggest being certain with your choice before you sit down in the chair.

it depends on your states policy on blood donation. in louisiana (where i live) if your tattoo parlor is regulated by the state and has been inspected and certified by the state then you can give blood. the blood bank will just call your shop and ask them if you have gotten a tattoo there and if you have, you're good to go. but if you get a tattoo from a place that is NOT regulated by the state then you have to wait 12 months until you can give.
for the person that said it is only four months... that's not the case for every state. check your state's rules for donation.

I have 8 tattoos. You can not donate blood for 6 months. Check with your local donation center - they can advise what the time frame is for piercings and tattoos - generally 6 months to 1 year.

The red cross likes you to wait 12months after getting a tattooo before giving blood, ususally by then you will know if you have gotten anything (ie heptistis, infection) Get the tattoo, my hubby had 5 and gives blood on a regular basis.

It is NOT true that you cannot be a blood donor if you have Tattoos. You have to wait six months after your last Tat to give blood. I have many Tattoos and give blood regularly.
