Is it possible to dissolve the stones by taking precautions in food? If so what type of food is advised? If not, what are the precautions to be taken in future to see that new stones are not formed? If the largest stone is 2.5 cm (though there is no complaint of severe pain) is it necessary to undergo surgey for removal of stones? and or gall bladder?

stay away from lettuce and fatty foods (peanuts).

many times diet can control it, however, if you have stones, they will need to be blasted (laser) or removed (surgically).

It is when the stones roll and get caught in the duct that cause the pain.
I had my gall bladder removed in 1985 (I was only 20), and what had agitated it was a diet with lots of salads. (believe it or not it can trigger it).
I had it removed, and they said good thing, as my gall bladder was ready to rupture.
Good luck with whatever you decide, but check with your doctor. Some surgery is not nearly as evasive as it used to be. (eg, they go in through your belly button now, vs, a 12 inch scar across your stomach.(which I have)

:-)

You want to stay on a low fat diet, but it wont get rid of the stone. The stone could pass, or it could block the common bile duct and you could get pancreatitis, liver damage and even die. Some times it is worse without the pain, because patients think it isn't that much of a problem and is easy to ignore. It is nothing to fool around with, as I am sure your doctor told you. The surgery can usually be done laproscopically so your out of the hospital the same day.

No. Stones are stones and always there until removed. To prevent further formation of stones, do what the doctor tells U to do.

Make sure that you maintain a low fat diet and drink plenty of water.

The gallbladder aids the body in digestion of fats so when you eat a high fat meal it causes a diseased gallbladder to "spasm". This is very painful.

If your doctor is not rushing to take out your gallbladder and you are feeling okay with your symptoms. I would follow a low fat diet and healthy life style.

Good Luck!

avoid fatty foods, but an interesting tip is alcohol knocks out the gall bladder so therefore if you drink a vast amount of alcohol you can have a kebab on the way home and be pain and sympton free. Not very pc but worth knowing non the less

OMIT ALL greasy foods. Gaul stones can be cause be drinking well water, etc. So try not to do that. You doc will not advise you to have surgery for it until you begin experincing pain.
