Can you tell me what is the basic difference between DSC H2 and DSC H5 apart from H5 having higher megapixles and larger LCD screen are there any technical or other advantages of H5 over H2? (Apart from the ones I listed above)

No, from what I can see...the only differences between the two cameras is the H5 has an extra megapixel and a larger LCD. But that LCD has a much better resolution than the H2 (230,000 pixels v 85,000pixels). But that also means it's going to use a lot more battery power.
Oh...and the H5 also comes in a different colour.

Read the H5 review below...particularly where it says "conclusion" (page 15.) It gives comparisons to the H2.

I recently looked at all these cameras and read many professional and amateur reviews. They all get strong recommendations, and they each have some characteristics better and worse than the others. But most of the "faults" are small and hard to detect by an untrained eye. Canon is a frequent favorite, based on its long history of success with film, digital, and professional cameras. It is mentioned as a "real camera company". But they have their minor flaws too. Another camera In the same class is the Panasonic FZ30. It is a little bigger, and has manual zoom and focus rings on the barrel, like a d-SLR. My conclusion: They are all very good and very close in overall results. So I bought based on features, feel in my hands, and price. I ended up with the Sony H1 (2005 version of the H2/H5) because of the larger LCD and better price. I suggest that you go to camera stores and really hold the cameras and take some test pics. The camera needs to feel good to you. (I loved the bigger viewfinder and manual zoom/focus rings on the FZ30, but didn't like the heavier weight and bulk for carrying the camera around.) Good Luck!

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head. The LCD on the H5 is EXTREMELY nice. Especially when compared to the Canon S3IS. I love Canon but for the price, I'd go with the H5.
