Recently went to the US Embassy down in London to report my daughter's birth abroad. The British employees were great, excellent customer service, etc. However, there was this one lady, the Consular Officer who was really nasty, had a horrible attitude and a chip on her shoulder that made her think she was Condoleeza Rice. Anyone know how I can complain? I asked for her name and the address to where I can complain and she provided neither.

Hi. I sure know how you feel. Been there, done that. I once had an embassy employee tell me that, because I had been out of the country for so long that I no longer had any residential status in any state that I was no longer a U.S. citizen.

I have two suggestions, but I doubt that either of them will do any good. Still, they are worth a try:

1) Call the main Embassy number and ask to speak to the Duty Officer of the Day. Register your complaint with the person who acknowleges being this person.

2) The following rediculously long URL is the webpage for sending questions and/or comments to the State Departement.

If only there was a mechanism for Consular officers to complain about the nasty people with horrible attitudes and unrealistic expectations with whom they come in contact each day. But of course, I am certain that you were a paragon of virtue and the epitome of civility in your dealings with the officer.

If your day just will not be complete without exacting some sort of revenge for the humiliation you suffered, write a letter detailing the gruesome way you were treated and send it to:

Chief - Consular Section
U.S. Embassy
55/56 Upper Brook Street
LONDON, W1A 2LQ

interestingly, the State branch is having situation looking adequate volunteers to serve in Iraq. There are presently two hundred foreign places provider officers working in Iraq. Diplomats are being advised that in the event that they decline to serve in Iraq they could face disciplinary action as much as and alongside with dismissal. some militia workers in Iraq have complained that they are being assigned to responsibilities that could desire to be complete by employing State branch workers. Iraq is obviously an extremely risky difficulty submit and that's extremely comprehensible that many diplomats don’t prefer to flow there.

Maybe she really was Condolezza Rice and she is pissed off because you mistook her for a low level typist.

Send a letter to the Ambassador, who would forward it to the appropriate corporate area in the embassy. Write specifics. Bad behaviour matters. Bad attitude is irrelevant.

I would write to the Secretary of State and copy the London office.

File a diplomatic protest against the Consul and course it through your government.
