Good question. Pretty creative of god though, wouldn't you say? I can think of 1,000's of different ways that a god could kill someone... but turning a person into a pillar of salt is really out there.

I wonder why he didn't have the earth swallow her, or just bring fire or plague upon her, like he did to so many of his other "children"?

Maybe the "chosen people" needed salt?

So Lot's daughters would be in with a chance. Read to the end of the story! See Genesis 19: 30 to 38 for a biblical story of "family values". Funny, I never heard them read that bit in Church.

I believe this is the first recorded story of father-daughter incest, and the first record of the excuse "I was drunk... er... both times"

I believe it was because she was loathe to give up the thrills of Sodom when the place was emptied out.

If you want the whole story from the source, just look up Genesis 19.

Whether it's draconian or not will depend upon your particular personal set of beliefs.

Lot was told by God to take his family and leave and not to look back as the city was destroyed. However, his wife turned and looked. This was God's punishment for her disobeying a direct order.
