It is not the governments bussiness and should not be illeagal and though it is on the books in several states, in the wake of Lawrence v. Texas, 539 U.S. 558 (2003), it is pretty much history. Some states, however, still have what are called heart balm statues that allow the injured spouse to sue for damages ( "Criminal Conversation" - adultery and "Alienation of Affection" - stealing someone's spouse.)

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery’. But now I tell you any one who looks at a woman and wants to possess her is guilty of committing adultery with her in his heart.
So if your right eye causes you to sin, take it out and throw it away! It is much better for you to lose a part of your body than to have your whole body thrown into hell. If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away! It is much better for you to lose one of your limbs than for your whole body to go to hell”.
(Matthew 5:27 to 30)
“Jesus said to his disciples, things that make people fall into sin are bound to happen, but how terrible for the one who makes them happen!”
(Luke 17:1)
Go through this open warning as well:-
“You know the saying: A little bit of yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise. You must remove the old yeast of sin, so that, you will be entirely pure”.
(1 Corinthians 5:6to7)
Moreover, the prayer of Jesus on the cross (the Psalm-22) also clarifies that an entirely pure man is that, who believes in One God and the Absolute Oneness of God (Monotheism) like that of the belief of Jesus himself.
Jesus (PBUH) speaks of the One God, not of the Father-God. Nor, he has ever declared himself as the Son-God or the Saviour. So, the followers of Jesus should follow the Call of Jesus for Monotheism.
“Worship the Lord your God and
Serve only God”.
(Matthew 4:10)
They should not follow the calls of his illoyal followers for Polytheism.
Jesus (PBUH) has already said:-
“Whosoever rejects me and does not accept my message, has one, who will judge him. The words, I have spoken, will be his judge on the Last Day”.
(John 12:48)

What gives all of you the right to Judge? are you all free of sin? are you all perfect? have none of you ever made a MISTAKE?
NO only God has the right to punish people who commit adulrty. not any of you here. and once you ask for forgiveness God Forgives you as long as you mean it. stop Judging people and make sure your own life is free and clear of sin Thank You
P.S the guilt people have when they find out they were lied to is enough punshment.

Absolutely. I also tend to think that they should punish themselves for it by the guilt they feel. Betrayal used to be considered a bad thing socially, now it doesn't seem to be. A good example, my ex told his best friend he was cheating on me, he asked what he should do, his friend said *(&( em both! The moral character that I see missing in this country saddens and scares me.

What makes you think their not already being punished? You do trust in God don't you? You do believe and follow Jesus don't you? He said if you look at a woman with lust, you have committed adultry, so what punishment do you want?

Why would they be punished it is their freedom of choice and it doesn't cost me a cents. Let the first person cast the stone is sinless. (word from Jesus)

the man that commits adultery shud be exiled from his country and out there to be left all alone, until he is hunger stricken and is sorry for wat he has done.
the woman that involves in such acts shud be barried half under the ground ... and fired with 70 coal pieces at her back. So next time when she thinks of doin it again she would remember the pain it got her into.

i think if it were exposed publicly it would deter the person from continuing and new prospective adulterers from starting. You know like taking out an advertisers announcement in the papers
