Also, right where the IV was, the vein seems to be much harder than my other veins and it moves around. What could this be and do I need to go to the doctor to check it out? Is it at all possible that a part of the IV could have gotten stuck in my vein because that is exactly what it feels like

I doubt that you have a piece of the catheter in your hand. If the health care professional was doing their job, they assess the the tip of the iv when it is removed. If they note that anything has been damaged to the tip, the doctor would be notified and surgical interventions would be taken.

It concerns me that it would still be hurting after three weeks. You may have a blood clot at the site that is trying to heal itself. This could cause the hardening at this site and pain.

You may also have an infection. This would also cause swelling and pain.

Take a mild pain reliever like Tylenol and apply heat to the site. Then go back to your doctor. You should really get it checked out.

im not a doctor and im not a shrink but i would suggest you go, you may have a piece of metal stuck in it or they could have bruised it while pulling it out, dont worry you should be ok just i would go to the doc just to be sure you never know :)
