I don't know who came up with that addage but they didn't have clue as to what they were talking about. It has nothing to do with the mixing of alcoholic beverages or the order in which they're consumed. To much is just that! To Much! Another responder stated that if you mixed wine, beer & liquor the results are the same. Not True! Different forms of alcohol do give different reactions. Of course if you're stumble drunk & puking your guts out you probably wouldn't notice. I've also seen one responder stating that grass & beer are ok. Bullsh*t! It depends on each persons physiological makeup. Many moons ago I could drink beer most of the night & function well enough. Then if I'd go smoke one on top of it & I was rendered mostly useless. Just ask my ex. She'll tell you. :o)

Absolutely false. Both beer and liquor (and for that matter wine) contain ethanol. In fact in a standard serving they even have the same amount of ethanol. Liquor is made very similarly to beer, but then distilled to remove as much water a possible. The only reason you get sick is that when you mix you tend to drink to excess. Say you have 4 beers and then 2 shots.. then you go back and have 2 more beers. That would be the equivalent of 8 beers.

From the words of my roommate, he thinks its mostly that the "beer before liquor you've never been sicker" is all about limits. If you drink liquor first you can mellow down with beer but if you drink beer first you get that invincable feeling that you can drink whatever and you over drink on liquor.

The only grain of truth is that beer has less alcohol ounce for ounce, but a beer=a single mixed drink=a five ounce glass of wine for total alcohol content. It all depends on how much you drink, your own body size and composition, food also eaten, and time.

I've heard that and also "beer before liquor, throw up quicker". Honestly, I don't think it matters what type of alcohol you are drinking or in what order. You're gonna get drunk either way.

according to my sister, if you drink liquor and then beer youre going from a more highly concentrated form of alcohol to a less concentrated form..
it makes sense, but if you have a low tolerance for alcohol.. stay away from the liquor, period.
